Another painting in my series of mini minis, this one speaks to my heart. The heart of a nerd. I used pieces of 3.5″ diskette (does anyone else remember those?) along with text ripped from a book to pull this together. Add in a mix of wax, sand, a small stone and a little ceramic butterfly and we have a painting.
It’s tiny. It’s shiny. It has all the things we used to put on diskettes right there: images and words.
I have a collection of computer parts from keyboards to hard drives just waiting to go into art. I spend most of my time as a programmer and made my first web site in 1995. That’s aeons ago in internet terms. I remember sending out resumes with an email address on it and people would call me and ask what the little blahblah@domain.com meant. God, I feel old. So it’s cathartic to use the bits and pieces of my aged technology in my art.
Diskette. 1″x2″ Encaustic mixed media on a teeny tiny canvas.
